Board Member and Community Leader, Charlie Johnson, Dies; Board Vacancy to Be Filled in November's General Election
PHELAN, California (July 8, 2022) - Charles N. "Charlie" Johnson, a long-time member of the Phelan Piñon Hills Community Services District's Board of Directors ("Board"), died on Saturday, June 25, 2022, leaving a seat on the Board vacant.
Long-time Director, Charlie Johnson, was instrumental in the formation of the Phelan Piñon Hills Community Services District by organizing the Community Services District Formation Committee and serving as its Chairman. Charlie served as an active member of the Phelan and Pinon Hills community for over 30 years as a community activist, including as chairman of the Phelan Pinon Hills Community Improvement Association, as a business owner, as a role model, and as a leader in several other community service organizations where he built lasting relationships and will always be remembered.
During his tenure on the District's Board of Directors, Charlie served as a member of the Mojave Water Agency Technical Advisory Committee, the Oeste Sub-Area Committee, and served as an educator for California Special Districts Association. Charlie also served as the District's President and Vice President and as Chairman of the District's Finance, Waste Management, and Engineering Committees, where his commitment to the fiscal well-being of the District was paramount. Charlie's passion in life was in advocating for our community and in working to make it a great place to live. Charlie will be missed.
On July 6, 2022, the Board determined to leave the vacant seat open due to the proximity of the upcoming general election in which Charlie Johson's seat was one of three seats up for election. Candidate filing begins July 18, 2022.
